Scholarships & Memorial Funds
The SLWA Education Scheme has funded scholarships for secondary school students, university students, and career learners in Sri Lanka since 1976. Two named memorial funds provide dedicated grants in honour of members who gave generously to the Association.

Scholarships for Sri Lankan Students
The SLWA Education Scheme awards grants to students in financial need across Sri Lanka. Grants are assessed and approved by the five appointed trustees and funded through donations, fundraising events, and income from the memorial funds.
Two Memorial Funds
Two dedicated funds have been established within the Education Scheme, each set up with a significant donation in memory of a person connected to the SLWA. The funds operate independently and award grants each year.
The Grace Mackie Fund supports one or two students annually in career education. The Jerry McEvoy Fund supports two accountancy students and is structured to endure permanently. Grants are awarded from interest earned on the fund, leaving the capital intact in Sri Lanka in perpetuity.
These funds reflect the generosity of those who wanted their connection to the SLWA and to Sri Lanka to continue making a difference long after their lifetime.
Giving That Lasts
Both memorial funds were established through donations made by family members in honour of loved ones who were connected to the SLWA. Their generosity funds scholarships every year and ensures the Association's educational mission continues.
Career Education Grants
This fund was established by Mr James Mackie with donations made in memory of his wife, Grace Mackie. Grace was an active and dedicated committee member of the SLWA, and this fund honours her commitment to the Association and to the women it serves.
Accountancy Student Grants
This fund was established with a substantial donation made by Mrs Barbara McEvoy in memory of her husband, Jerry McEvoy. As an accountant by profession, his legacy is honoured through grants awarded to accountancy students, preferably in their final year, in Sri Lanka.
The fund is structured to last permanently. Grants are awarded from the interest earned on the capital, so the fund principal remains intact in Sri Lanka in perpetuity.
How Grants Are Awarded
Grants from both the general scholarship fund and the named memorial funds are assessed and awarded by the SLWA Education Scheme trustees. Students are identified through established contacts and partner organisations in Sri Lanka.
The SLWA does not accept unsolicited applications directly through this website. If you believe a student meets the criteria for a grant, please contact us and the Education Officer will advise on the process.
