Trustees
The SLWA Education Scheme is a registered UK charity. Its trustees are appointed from within the SLWA membership and are legally responsible for the charity's governance, funds, and activities.
What Trustees Do
Trustees are the individuals legally responsible for overseeing a registered charity. They ensure the organisation operates within its stated purposes, manages its funds responsibly, and complies with charity law.
For the SLWA Education Scheme, trustees govern the award of educational grants to disadvantaged women and girls in Sri Lanka, oversee financial reporting to the Charity Commission, and protect the long-term sustainability of the fund.
How Trustees Are Appointed
Trustees of the SLWA Education Scheme are appointed from within the membership of the Sri Lanka Women's Association in the UK. The appointment reflects trust in their commitment to the SLWA's charitable objectives and their connection to the Sri Lankan community.
Appointments are reviewed by the Executive Committee. Trustees serve on a voluntary basis, receiving no remuneration for their role.
